Glen Celtic were formed in 1977 after a meeting in the local Town Hall. Glen Celtic were admitted to the Roscommon & District League in the 1977/78 season. The main driving force behind the formation of the club was local man Peter Keaveney who had observed the great success enjoyed by the local secondary school in soccer competitions. Celtic drew their players from neighbouring parishes Glinsk / Kiltevna / Williamstown along with Glenamaddy.

Their first competitive match was played in the Convent grounds where they registered a 2-2 draw with Moore United with the first competitive goal being scored by Mick Heneghan. In that season Glen Celtic finished in mid table. The following season 1978/79 Glen Celtic after a hard season won promotion to Division One. The 1979/80 season was a historic one for Glen Celtic when they finished joint second in the League and in turn also made two cup finals - The League Cup where they were victorious over Boyle Celtic and the Roscommon Cup where they were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Castlerea Celtic. When the Premier Division was formed in 1981/82 Glen Celtic won the Premier Divsion and also reached the Quarter Finals of the Connacht Cup. In 1984 the club nearly went  under with no home and no money. However that summer with the generous offer of a pitch by Dr.Patrick Geraghty and the hard work of the chairperson at the time Jim McDermott and his committee it proved to be a turning point in the club's history. In 1985/86 Celtic won the Division 2 title beating Cam Celtic into second place followed in 1987/88 with a return to the Premier Division. For the next couple of years Celtic faced the up's and downs of soccer history being relegated again to Division 1 but returning almost immediately to the Premier Division in 1990/91.

In the 1992/93 season Glen Celtic were relegated but bounced back immediately to win Division One and the Division One Cup. A great start to the 1994/95 season saw Glen Celtic advance to the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup, the Connacht Cup semi-final and the Roscommon Cup Quarter Final but alas there were no trophies to show in any of these competitions. However in the League Celtic finished five points clear of Lough Harps to win the Division 1 Title and beat Moore Utd 3-1 to win the Division 1 Cup. In 1996/97 Celtic finished runners up in the Premier Division Cup when being narrowly beaten by CP.Ajax. However the memory of this defeat was banished totally on Sunday May 3rd 1998 when Celtic beat a highly talented Roscommon Town Team to win the Royal Hotel Cup Final 2-0 with Martin Hegarty and Declan Geraghty scoring the all important goals.  On top of this Celtic also won the Premier Division Cup beating Cloonfad 4-3 in a thriller to finish one of the most successful seasons ever.
In 1998/99 Celtic finished runners up in the Premier Division after a playoff with Cloonfad United and CP.Ajax. This was followed in 2000/2001 with Celtic finishing runners up in the Royal Hotel Cup after being beaten by Ballinasloe Town on penalties. The B Team after coming so close on previous occasions finally achieved promotion after finishing runners up to Ballaghdereen in Division 3.
In the 2002/03 season - Glen Celtic A achieved promotion back to the Premier Division going the full season unbeaten, Glen Celtic B under the keen eye of Michael Comer  gained promotion finishing runners up to Lisnamult in Division 3A and to add to this the talented U-18 team achieved Cup success.
Over the years Glen Celtic have ensured that the future of the club has been secure and have worked with all age groups and achieved success at all grades. From being winners at the Community Games with an U-12 team they have steadily managed to win nearly every under-age title available in the Roscommon & District League. Success has been achieved at U-12, U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-18 level.
